Aftermarket Adds AfterTest and AfterDiff to Record Traffic and Compare Versions
Aftermarket now has four tools. The new pair answers the question that comes before any repair: what actually changed? AfterTest, run as aftermarket record, is a proxy that changes nothing and saves each request and answer as a test fixture. Credentials, cookies and keys such as api_key are blanked as REDACTED in the file, and a config can add more fields, while the real traffic keeps the real values. AfterDiff, run as aftermarket replay, sends the recording to two versions of a service and lists every difference by field. It sends only reads unless told otherwise, so it can’t change data on a live service.
The example closes the loop from the AfterAPI note: an old client’s twelve checks are recorded against v1, then replayed. Against v2 directly, all twelve answers differ. Through AfterAPI, all twelve match. The tests send fifteen secrets through one exchange and search the file for each. A review before release found that WebSocket upgrades broke through the recorder, and that a ; in a query could slip a token past redaction. Both were fixed, along with nine smaller findings, 272 tests in all. Recording added about 81 µs at the median on a 2-CPU test machine. Binaries are out for Linux, macOS and Windows.
